EV charging

Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is the home charger Hypervolt currently sells in the UK. It is published at 7.4 kW on a single-phase supply, with charging modes that can run the car on solar and home-battery energy alone. It suits a house that wants load management and a weatherproof unit on an outside wall.
Hypervolt
What it is, and who it suits.
Solar-aware charging modes
Hypervolt publishes Boost, Eco and Super-Eco. Boost charges straight away at the most power available; Eco puts solar and home-battery energy first and holds a minimum of 1.4 kW so charging carries on; Super-Eco uses only solar and home-battery energy and draws nothing from the grid.
The clamp does the measuring
The CT1 clamp goes on the incoming live tail and measures the whole property’s load. Hypervolt states it is needed for automatic load management under UK wiring regulations, and that without it the charger cannot see surplus solar.
Minding a home battery
Battery-Safe mode builds on Super-Eco and pauses charging if the home battery starts to discharge by accident. A second clamp, CT2, is supported on Home 3.0 and later and is only needed with an AC-coupled battery.
Earthing and protection
The unit has an internal 6 mA DC RCD and integrated PEN-fault protection to BS 7671 Amendment 2, and Hypervolt lists TN-C-S, TN-S and TT earthing. Overcurrent protection is not built in: Hypervolt requires an external MCB or RCBO.
Built for an outside wall
The enclosure is IP66 and IK10, wall or pole mounted, with a published operating range of −25 °C to 40 °C. The front cover can be swapped by hand, in Ultra White, Space Grey or Ultra Black.
Wired or wireless
Home 3 Pro has 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE, Hypervolt lists Ethernet as well, and updates arrive over the air.

On the day
What fitting a Hypervolt charger involves.
- The clamp has to reach the meter tails, so the cable run back to the meter is planned before the unit goes up.
- The circuit feeding the charger gets its own MCB or RCBO at the board, since Hypervolt leaves that part to the installer.
- IP66 and IK10 on a wall or a post, rated −25 °C to 40 °C, which covers an exposed wall through a Cheshire winter.
- With an AC-coupled home battery a second clamp, CT2, is added so the charger can see the battery.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Ethernet, so a unit at the far end of a drive can be wired rather than left on a weak signal.
